Sorry if this is sort-of off-topic, but I need your help. A 1991 190E 8V has come up for sale near me in mint condition. Is there anything in particular to look out for on those cars?

BTW, amazing tribute. Senna would be proud.

BAT comments are always interesting. 50% useful info/great stories, 50% wealthy senior citizen pissing contest (bring a catheter).

One of my favorite cars Of All Time.

Selling it, I presume? Good luck! I hope your Cossie finds a good home.

Some things to watch for:

-Clutches are notoriously weak. Not prone to failure, but its known that if you beat on the stuck clutch you’ll need a replacement.

-Bosch everything. These cars are getting old, so fueling and electrical systems will likely need replacement if it hasn’t already been done. Mine developed a very slight miss a few months after I bought it, which was easily solved by an electrical tune-up including a distributor cap and rotor.

-Parts can be a hassle. Obviously things were harder to find for me because the car was one-of-few, but I have stories including leaving the car to sit in my school parking lot for over a month (three days after I bought it) where it became stranded after a radiator failure, where I then found all Cosworth radiators were discontinuted (the 16v radiator is bigger than the 8v though, and the 8v’s can be found easily.). In the end I found one I shipped from the Czech Republic.

-No cats+no resonator= machine-gun like backfires :)

The M-B is on the block...what now?

If you’re OK with the question (if you already posted about this and it was overlooked by yours truly, please accept apologies).

Nothing, unfortunately. Just moved into my Freshman year of college, so I’ll put anything I get towards loans and won’t own a vehicle in the forseeable future :(

Thanks for the info and congrats on advancing to the next stage. Also, commiserstions about selling the Cossie / being carless. Based on what I’ve seen and / or endured, what you’re doing is the quickest road to enjoying max vehicle flexibility on the other side.

Of course, you know this already — part of the rationale, true?

Best wishes bro
